Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of George Foreman GRV660 8-in-1 Toaster Oven/Broiler/Rotisserie, BlackCustomer Review: A Disappointment and Fire Hazard! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought one of these ovens for my youngest son at a local merchant in Tennessee for Christmas, and then I decided that I wanted to buy one for my eldest son also when I returned to Tampa in October. I couldn't find one at any of the local stores, so my youngest son found the item on the internet and I ordered it for my eldest son for Christmas.
My eldest son told me that within six months of just light use that the silver paint on the knobs had worn off. He only used it to warm toast or pizza in occasionally - he tried the rotisserie once but it made such a mess he said it wasn't worth the clean-up. Then, a few weeks after that, the timer broke on it and it would no longer turn off by itself. My youngest son said that the paint had come off the knobs of his unit as well. Then, the one I bought for my eldest son caught fire! He said he was watching on the sofa watching TV, and he smelled the odor of electrical cords burning. He went into the kitchen where the odor was strongest and determined that it was the oven. He quickly then unplugged the unit using a broom handle. I called my youngest son and told him to keep his unplugged.
Later he found out on the internet that other people had the similar experiences with the unit catching fire, and that it reportedly was more expensive to repair the oven due to its closed bottom design than to buy a new one. This over cost $135 I believe, and he went out and bought a $20 toaster oven at Wal-Mart which he likes just fine.
A few weeks later, the timer went out on my youngest son's oven, I told him to throw it away before something dangerous happened. I wasted nearly three hundred dollars on these two gifts, and I will never buy one of this maker's brands of ovens again considering all that went wrong and worse could have.
